Re Sette

Sometimes getting snowed in can be quite delicious!

During yet another threat of a blizzard (or "A Chance at Atoning for the Screwup Bloomberg & CO made by NOT clearing the streets for 5 days in the last snowfall"), our company paid to put us up in hotel rooms for a night so we could make it to work more easily. My friend Patty and I stopped for an early dinner at Resette, where their prix fixe menu caught our eye. $35 for 3 courses and a free glass of wine/coffee/tea!

Pongsri with ABF

ABF's sister gave us tickets to "Jersey Boys" for Christmas (great show! loved it!), so we picked a nearby restaurant for the pre-show dinner: Pongrsi Thai, a favorite standby of mine for years and years (and reviewed here in a visit with That Sara).

Armando's

One of ABF's favorite restaurants, Armando's, closed not long after the first time he took me there. Another business took over and quickly shuttered, and soon we heard rumors of Armando's return. The restaurant is back with a new look and new menu, but we waited a while after reading bad reviews about service, food, etc. I don't think ABF would have enjoyed having his good memories there sullied by a bad experience. We suddenly decided last night would mark our return, and we headed out to one of our favorite neighborhoods: Brooklyn Heights.

Schnippers' Salads

I met That Sara yesterday for a lunch/gift exchange (Happy Chrismakuh!) at Schnippers, where I had a finger-licking-good burger a while ago. In light of my New Year's resolution to eat even healthier (cutting back on sugar, healthier carbs, etc), I asked Sara to pick a place with good salads--and she named Schnippers as a favorite right off the bat!

Lime-Cilantro Shrimp

ABF (Awesome BoyFriend) & I put together this lip-smacking shrimp dish on New Year's Eve, and I can't wait to make it again.

You know I like it simple--and here goes: get a pound of cooked, frozen shrimp and let it thaw. Overnight in the fridge is the easiest, but if you're in a hurry, put it in a bowl of cold water and let it sit for 30 minutes.

Arugula & Hazelnut Salad

New Year's Eve is a great night to stay in, make a good meal, share a bottle of delicious wine. ABF & I started off our awesome dinner with our newest favorite salad. It's an arugula salad with gorgonzola, pear, and hazelnuts. We shared this salad at Bocca ($11 dollars and horrible service) and decided to make it for New Year's Eve (much cheaper and no drama :)

Looking Back: 2010's Best Recipes

2010 is coming to an end tonight, and I must say: I am READY! Bring on 2011! But first, a look back at my 10 favorite recipes of the year. There are a few more worth checking out, but 10 in 2010 had a nice ring to it. ;)

Most of these recipes are actually quite simple, maybe 3 or 4 ingredients, tops. Others require a little more, but they're hardly complicated. And every one of them is worth trying and enjoying! You know me by now--great food can be easy and affordable!

Garlic-chive butter: ABF's signature compound butter. It will transform your breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Holiday Eats: Salt & Pepper Sugar Cookies

TastingTable.com recently featured an intriguing recipe for sugar cookies--it added cracked black pepper to the rolling sugar!

Seeing as I'm adding more and more sweet/savory combos to my list of favorite foods, I thought I'd give this a whirl.

El Mariachi

After a long day of shopping for Christmas presents, ABF & I were looking for a spot for dinner. The streets were nearly deserted in Rockville Centre, and the few restaurants open were packed to the gills!

Tabla: One Week Left!!!

My friend Carlota and I stopped at Danny Meyer's Tabla restaurant this week. You have ONE WEEK to go here before it closes for good, and you should absolutely stop in for a fantastic meal.
